Preparations have started for Pelican Theatre`s second Revue. Those of you who saw the first revue in 2008 will remember the color, the comedy, the dancing, and the fully licensed bar. We hope to give you even better this year, though the price of liquor licenses has escalated recently and might well put the fully licensed bar beyond our reach. Still, a sober audience will be in a better position to appreciate the fine singing and acting the company will present, as well as the beautiful dancing and comedy.
The rest of the year will be filled with acting and performance of high quality and some very interesting writing. We are so fortunate to have performers of all ages to flesh out the work of our established and budding writers. Some of our young actors are also skilled improvisers, as was demonstrated on several occasions during performances of Double Take and Children Overboard. It’s this mixture of skills and originality that helps Pelican Theatre to fill a useful place in the patchwork of theatre companies in the region.
We are continuing our classes at the Hastings Hall for this year. Fiona is providing an opportunity for children to learn the crafts of drama and dance on a Monday evening, and she is continuing her dancing classes on Tuesdays. She is also holding classes for 10-12 year-olds. Please contact Gordon her for details on 5979 4824. On Wednesdays we are holding drama classes for 12 to 20 year-olds, which will include drama skills, improvisation, script-writing and some singing.
And every year we enjoy the fruit of all these classes when we present our Annual Youth Musical. Leigh Piper, who is writing this year`s spectacular, is being very secretive about the content, but I am sure it will me a great success and a fun evening. As always.
Gordon Gribbin.
President, Pelican Theatre Company.
